Wired Mind, the exhibition dedicated to Nikola Tesla, opens this Friday in Helsingør at Kulturværftet.

illutron and GeekPhysical, working alongside Casper Øbro have created an exhibition dedicated to Nikola Tesla. illutron & GeekPhysical created an authentic replica of Tesla’s giant magnetic coil, as seen in this iconic photo . Visitors can sit in Tesla’s place, have their photo taken, and adjust the level of Tesla coils appearing in the photo and send it to themselves via email.

Casper Øbro curated the exhibition and created many stunning visuals and physical object mapping, exploring Tesla’s work and life, as well as some truly spectacular interactive elements.

The exhibition Wired Mind focuses on Tesla and his distinctive universe of entrepreneurship, science and art. He managed to fuse science and art in a unique, dedicated space from which vital inventions took shape – including his great invention, the Tesla Coil, an electric coil, was developed in 1891 with the aim of producing high-frequency alternating current. His inspiration came as much from his community involvement as from science. Tesla created his inventions in a cultural melting pot – it
we today would call ‘cultural innovation’.

With a mix of movies, interactive features and visual elements audiences can experience up close some of the amazing inventions Tesla has given the world. And when the audiovisual Click festival rolls in place the first weekend in May 2012, the exhibition is transformed into a platform for workshops and interactive play that invites the audience into a new cultural experience.

Casper Øbro / Artist & Designer
‘The title of the exhibition was wired Mind, because Tesla had the whole world’ wired up ‘, and because his invention was too brilliant for the time he lived in. I’m fascinated by his 100 year old invention, which today forms the basis for many of our absolute necessities. Tesla coil which he invented in 1891 used in televisions and radios and a host of other electronic devices. None has since then come up with something that approximates better. I wish to convey Tesla’s genius and his inventions – and illustrate his humanistic approach to the world. He presented the attitudes and views that were caused others to think of him as ‘a strange individual’ but today it is clear that he had quite unusual foresight. "
