Underwater Camera

Offering a glimpse into the underwater world, with endless possibilities of what might be seen, or who might be met!

The underwater camera was extraordinarily clear, much like watching a fish tank. We could see many crabs (in fact, some of the cables were chewed by said crabs!) and many different types of fish, shrimps and other creatures that we couldn’t even name! We also met a diver!

The video camera was a PAL video camera, a composite camera, meaning that it gives out a TV signal rather than a digital signal so we could connect it via a cable and watch it on the monitor.

The camera housing was built for use with the Nautilus submarine and is a thick steel cylinder with a large plexiglass window bolted to it. The camera was tested repeatedly for water leakage before being put into the harbor.

At the end of KulturSYDhavn 2010, which was what this project was created for, we even used it to help locate a lost video camera that had fallen into the water, by pulling the camera around the harbor floor. The camera could easily be moved by a puppet style string system.
