KulturSYDhavn

Created at: 13/07/2010

This summer, we brought Sydhavn to life! 6, 7, 8. August, 2010!

In collaboration with Kulturhavn, an annual event at Islands Brygge, illutron created a festival on the quay of Teglholmen and around the barge in the form of KulturSYDhavn

Featuring the barge, the quay, and the connection to Islands Brygge, illutron created:

Fire Tower
A fire tower, sitting high on a tripod of steel, erupting with
bursts of flame. A truly spectacular sound and light event,
visible in day or evening.

Tug of War (Tov trækning)
One half of the rope is in the Sydhavn quay, and one half in
Islands Brygge; as players pull on their end, the other end
reacts remotely, and the winning team sets off the fire canon.
At each site, the end of the rope not being pulled will be in
the water, giving the impression of going to the other area.

See-Saw (En vippe)
A mechanical see-saw, adjusting to various weights, allows
an adult on one end and a child on the other, giving them
equal opportunity to go up or down by balancing weight
indifference.

Cocoons
Built for the Roskilde Ånd og Viden festival and Roskilde Festival 2010, these were brought to life in Sydhavn; at night they glowed with bright lights from within providing a stark contrast to the darkness of the harbor area.

Artist cafe:
The lower deck of the barge was transformed into a cafe
on the water, providing coffee and conversation for those
interested. Illutron artists enjoyed a coffee and welcomed discussions with everyone.

Sail-In Cinema
Local boat owners could drive up to our large orange barge. We showcased VJs, the TELLY ZOOMs, and on Saturday night, we played independent films from local and international artists on a large projector screen. We were reminded of the drive in theaters of days past, but on the water.

Gathering at the fireplace
Four fire baskets hung over the side of the barge, reflecting off the water and providing a beautiful warmth in the summer evening.

Hydrophones
Three hydrophones were placed in the water which could hear when stones are dropped into the water. The sounds of the stones, depending on where they land, were transmitted to speakers on the deck of the barge.

Underwater vision
An underwater camera that sits on the bottom of the harbor, and transmits images to a screen onboard the barge was popular, along with the hydrophones. People could view the harbor floor while they visited the barge.

Bubbles
An air compressor pumped air into the water, which was lit by underwater lighting from below, creating a beautiful interactive element wherein people could set off the bubbles
and see the results, a beautiful moment in the water.
